Rahul Gandhi: Voters are more than the population in Maharashtra.
Rahul Gandhi has accused the Election Commission of manipulation in voter lists in Maharashtra, stating that the number of voters exceeds the adult population. He calls for clarification and transparency from the EC regarding the addition of 3.9 million voters. Gandhi, along with other opposition leaders, claims the irregularities are contributing to an increase in votes in favor of the BJP.

Rahul Gandhi said that the number of voters in Maharashtra is higher than the population. He accused the Congress, Shiv Sena-UBT, and NCP-SS on Friday of manipulation in the voter lists in Maharashtra. Rahul said that a total of 3.9 million voters were added between the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state. Speaking at a press conference, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi stated that the total number of added voters in Maharashtra is equivalent to the population of states like Himachal Pradesh and urged the Election Commission to provide the voter lists and clarify the matter.
He mentioned that opposition parties managed to retain their share of votes in the Assembly elections, and as a result, more voters shifted in favor of the BJP. Rahul Gandhi, along with NCP-SS's Supriya Sule and Sena's Sanjay Raut, said that according to government statistics, the adult population in Maharashtra is 95.4 million, while the state’s voter population is 97 million. Rahul Gandhi claimed that there are more voters than the adult population in Maharashtra. He also stated that in the five months after the Lok Sabha elections, 3.9 million voters were added, and in the five years between 2019 and 2024, 3.2 million votes were added in the state.
He said the next step is to knock on the doors of the judiciary. "I am surprised that the Election Commission is not ready to provide the voter lists. There is something wrong, and they know it," Gandhi said. Raut added that if the Election Commission stays alive and doesn't answer the questions raised by Rahul Gandhi, it would mean that the EC is a puppet of the government.
